Dear Avery,
Life in your 30s shifts when your body starts to slow down or not be as
adaptable as it once was. It’s the decade where most of us start optimizing our
lives to prevent or stay ahead of potential illnesses to come. And that’s precisely
what your Uncle and I have been doing over the last few years.
One of the recent things we did at the beginning of January was take a full blood work panel from a company called InsideTracker. It was to get a baseline of where we currently stand, given 40+ factors like gut health, inflammation, cognition, metabolism, cholesterol, etc. Cool, right? Ok, ok, I know you are only 13 now, and you really won’t worry about any of this stuff at the MOMENT, but it’s a great thing to monitor as you get older.
After my blood draw, a couple of weeks later, I got the results. My inner age was 27!

A full 10 years younger than my physical body. I couldn’t believe it. It helped me solidify that my current routine of daily vitamins, mainly water consumption throughout the day, one cup of coffee, moderate exercise, etc, is all working. There is no silver bullet here — it combines various factors.
My daily vitamins consisted of what I thought I needed:
- Iron (low iron levels indicated from past pregnancies)
- Fish oil
- One daily multi-vitamin in an edible form that includes pre and probiotics
- One supplement for hormonal deficiencies
The only thing that makes me take these all consistently is a pill box on my desk. I have a full two weeks filled and go through them daily, next to my daily GEM container, my edible vitamin. I place them both in my water bottle and get to them before my lunch.
The daily GEM must be working because my bloodwork returned with ZERO inflammation and good gut health. AMAZING. The narrative in the health world right now is that
inflammation is the leading indicator of a host of cancers and diseases. So I’m
taking care of that daily, and seeing the proof in the pudding is phenomenal.
Other contributing factors
- Making spinach smoothies a couple of times a week during my lunch. Spinach, fruit, yogurt, and some collagen supplements.
- GOOD SLEEP. I shoot for 8-9 hours every night. And I’ve optimized the shit out of sleeping space.
- That deserves its own blog post. Stay tuned!
- 30-40 mins per day or either walking or a light exercise. I’ve stopped putting pressure on myself to “go to the gym 3 days a week” and do X amount of Y. I just do what feels good and natural.
While I wish there were a one-stop shop for good health, it is a culmination of all the little things.
But I’m proud of where I am today. I know I can always get better by optimizing things as I go. I’ve released the pressure to look a certain way and focused on what is best for my natural state. And I think it’s working…
With love,
Aunt Megs
