James Lipton’s 10 Questions

By Megan Cynaumon

Dear Avery,

I was watching “Inside the Actor’s Studio”, a show where the dean of a very prestigious acting school interviews top actors. It’s so inspiring to hear the personal stories and journey’s of famous people…and I love hearing them talk about their craft. James Lipton has a very unique style of interviewing. He asks very random questions, only to hear their very first response…and will then move on to the next question quickly. It’s simple, direct, and effective. I thought it would be fun to answer his 10 most famous questions myself, as if I were on that stage with him.jameslipton

1. What is your favorite word?
Magical

2. What is your least favorite word?
Panties

3. What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?
Creatively: When I’m reading a book, and say “Yes!” out loud because the author wrote something so profound, that I wish I would have thought of it.
Spiritually: Worship music in church. When I feel compelled to close my eyes while singing, it’s pure spiritual magic.
Emotionally: When an actor makes me cry or nod my head in agreement during their performance.

4. What turns you off?
Immaturity and smelly people.

5. What sound or noise do you love?
Ocean waves. You can’t possibly be in a bad mood when listening to waves.

6. What sound or noise do you hate?
A dog’s whimper.

7. What is your favorite curse word?
Mother F*cker. I feel like a confident bad ass when I say it, and at the exact same time I feel very unladylike. Like I’m powerful but not respectable. It’s the most fascinating concept to me.

8. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
Singer/ Song writer. If I could inspire at least one person with my voice and my words the way some artists speak to me, that would be a dream come true.

9. What profession would you not like to do?
Obviously a janitor. I can barely clean up after myself.
But I would not want to be a commercial pilot. Flying in a very small box would make me claustrophobic, and knowing that I had over 100 lives on my shoulders everyday would give me anxiety! Eek!

10. If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?
You’re 10 minutes late, but I knew you would be. I’m glad you’re finally home.

When you are old enough, Aves, I can’t wait to hear your responses to these!

With Love,

Aunt Megs
