My 3 Words for 2013

By Megan Cynaumon

Dear Avery,

Welcome to 2013! Yes, we made it past the apocalypse. Hooray! Everyone usually makes New Year resolutions for themselves, but I wanted more than “I want to lose 10lbs!”. I want to have a new frame of MIND. So I decided to think of 3 words to keep in my mind throughout the year. I came up with: Charity, Style, and Patience.

Charity:

ImageTo me, this can mean a few things: helping, giving, or volunteering. Helping friends, family, or coworkers with anything. Giving money to church, school fundraisers, supporting good causes etc. I try my best to give money to people on the street or charities who sit outside of stores. But this year, I’ll be more aware to give back more so than I normally would. Also, giving back to others and treating all people with the respect they deserve, shows your true character.

Style:

Clothing Style

Style is something I’ve come into in the past couple of years. I never really cared much for clothes or accessories as I was a tom boy for a long time…and then high school, well..you dress to what is popular and for the boys. 😉  But I’ve come to love clothes that make me unique and confident. Don’t get me wrong, I love the jeans, t-shirt and tennies look because its comfy! But having style sets you apart. I love to experiment with patterns and colors, but still be comfortable. When you come into your style, your clothes should make you feel good. Adding bold jewelry makes me sparkle, so I try and add a piece to each outfit. So this year, when I put on an outfit or I’m shopping, I’ll keep “Style” in mind and be true to myself not to what others are wearing.

Patience

ImageThe phrase “The grass is always greener on the other side” is something all people struggle with. Other people may have things that you want, and in this day in age, when we want things we want them NOW! It’s hard to be still, be patient and wait for things to come your way. For me, I need to learn to be OK with things not happening in the time frame that I want them to. Remember: Let Go, Let God. His plan for me is greater than any I can imagine for myself, I just need to learn to patience and watch it unfold!

I hope you find words that inspire you, Avery.

With love,
