Rescue an Animal… Any Chance You Get.

Dear Aves,

I love animals. Being apart of our family, I presume you will love them too. I can’t even count how many animals we’ve rescued over the years, but I do know, that I loved them all.

These kitties below are still at home with Grandma and Grandpa. All came from a rescue situation. Max, is on the far right. At 5 am one morning, he was thrown out of a car in front of our house (I’d call that Divine Intervention). I heard him crying and brought him in. He’s been apart of the family for a few years now. Lola, is in the middle. While working at a summer camp, a few kids found her when she was a very small kitten. She was stuck in a slurpee cup. I took her home that day, cleaned her up, and kept her. And then there is Farley (named after Chris Farley–favorite comedian in our family, plus he was the fattest kitten in the litter). He’s a lovebug, and snuggles better than any animal I’ve ever met.

Next up, there was Evie. Evie is my first dog. Your Uncle and I rescued her from a shelter. She was roughly 6-8 years old and 20 pounds at the time. Here is the first picture of her: She is Scared, Anxious, and doesn’t know where she is going. <<< I’d be scared too.

Evie is the sweetest dog I’ve ever met. But, she had terrible anxiety. For the first couple of months: she destroyed our new home, escaped a few times, and gave US anxiety. We came to a point where we questioned giving her back, but then we thought, “If this were our child, what would we do? We’d continue to love it and never give them up.” So we didn’t. I prayed about it. I prayed for her. I prayed that she felt comfortable enough in her new home. Months after that hardship, she changed. She trusted us because we spoiled her with love.  This takes TIME, and patience.

Here she is now: Happy, Loved, At Peace, Joyful, and finally feels “At Home”.  << This is the best feeling in the world.

She was one the best decisions of my life. I hope one day, you get an opportunity to rescue an animal who needs you. In the end, you’ll ask yourself, “Who rescued who?”

With Love,
